Topic Post

This blog will cover the topic of how dance has changed throughout the decades in a series of pictures, videos, and other forms of digital media. I wanted to explore this topic because I spent the first eighteen years of my life dancing, both learning and teaching. I plan on utilizing my friend who is a photography major to get some original pictures of different styles of dance that have been popular over the years. Moving forward from that I will be making a graphic collage, a logo, a video, and audio based on my own dance experience and research I have done on the topic. I plan on keeping the designs themselves very minimalistic and clean, letting the dance itself convey most of the message. Dance is such a complex art form that I don’t want to muddle my content trying to make overly complex designs. That being said, they won’t lack in effort. Dale Ratcliff (@dalethedancer on instagram) does a very good job of mixing photography and dance and conveys a message through his dance pictures that I would like to mimic in my designs in this class. Another inspiration for my projects is Savion Glover (the_savionglover on instagram) a tap dancer from New Jersey. Tap is my favorite style of dance and it was very influential in the earlier decades of the 1900s making it an integral part of my inspiration. My final source of inspiration will be the Broadway World websites which documents different Broadway shows all the way back to the 1700s. Being able to see what shows came out each decade will help me to pinpoint what styles of dance were popular that decade since Broadway plays such a big role in the dance community. All the the links for these sources will be listed below.
